Shirley Wins Re-election as Stephens Co. Sheriff

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley earns a third term in office.

He defeated challenger Jim Davis in Tuesday’s Republican primary for Stephens County Sheriff by more than 2000 votes.

The incumbent, Shirley received 3,036 votes, or 79.64 percent, to Davis’s 776 votes, or 20.36 percent.

Shirley said he appreciates the ongoing support of the community in this election.

“I sure am humbled by the trust that they have shown in me in allowing me to continue to serve as their sheriff and for the past seven years, 7 1/2 years, we have really worked hard and served the people in Stephens County with pride and integrity and commitment to service and we will continue to do so,” said Shirley. “I pledge to do my very best and strive to provide the best I can for the community.”

Shirley said he also wishes Davis well in his future endeavors.

With no Democratic opposition, Shirley will run unopposed in the November election for a new term that starts on January 1, 2017.

A host of other county officeholders were re-elected without opposition.

They include Clerk of Court Tim Quick, Tax Commissioner Dene Hicks, Coroner Chris Stephens, State Court Judge James Irvin, and Probate Judge Glenda Ernest.
