Solar Panels Being Added to Stephens Co. Site

More solar panels are going up on land off of Turner Road in Stephens County.

According to Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin, United Renewable Energy is putting up a third solar project on the land it first leased, then bought from the Stephens County Development Authority.

Martin says the expectation is that the new solar panels will go online by later this Fall.

Martin goes on to say that the hope is that United Renewable Energy will be approved down the road for one more solar panel project by Georgia Power to go on the site and complete the solar panel build out on the property.

The first solar panels began operating on the site in 2014 and more were quickly added as part of a second project.

The solar panel project is part of a Georgia Power solar energy initiative and power created by the solar panels goes into the Georgia Power grid, as a Georgia Power substation is located nearby, to supplement that company’s energy supply.
