Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this Saturday

It’s time for the Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive this Saturday, May 13.  Letter carriers from Martin, Eastanollee and Toccoa will collect non-perishable food items for the Stephens County Food Bank.  Now in its 25th year, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the largest food drive in the nation collecting over 80 million pounds last year.

Michael Waddell is a letter carrier from the Toccoa Post Office, and he said the goal is 10,000 pounds of food.

“Locally last year we collected 14,817 pounds for the Stephens County Food Bank,” Waddell said. “That’s five straight years of collecting over 10,000 pounds, and we hope to reach the goal of 10,000 pounds again for the Stephens County Food Bank.  The Stephens County Food Bank provides food for hundreds of individuals, children, and families each month.”

Postal customers can place non-perishable food items in or at the mailbox.  Items can also be dropped off at the Toccoa, Martin, or Eastanollee Post Offices.

Waddell said everyone’s participation is needed and appreciated.

“I would like to thank the whole community for their participation over the years, and I hope that they will help out again this year with the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Saturday, May 13.”

Locally, if the goal is met, the food drive will provide food for two months for hundreds of people at the Stephens County Food Bank.
