State Softball Finals Start Today in Columbus

Stephens County High School will play for a state softball title starting today in Columbus.

The Lady Indians will begin play this afternoon in the eight-team AAAA state softball finals in Columbus.

First up for the Lady Indians is Central High School of Carrollton at 4 p.m. today in Columbus.

This tournament will follow a double-elimination format.

The winner of today’s Stephens County vs. Central of Carrollton game will play the winner of a 2 p.m. game between Jefferson and Chapel Hill at 9 a.m. Friday.

Meanwhile, the teams that lose those two games today will face off in an elimination bracket game at 1 p.m. Friday.

The tournament concludes Saturday.

Stephens County enters the game as the second place team from Region 8-AAAA, which put three teams in the tournament, with a record of 24-4.

Joining the Lady Indians in the finals are region champion Jefferson and the third place team Oconee County.

Other teams in the tournament include Northside of Columbus, Ridgeland, and Marist.

The new 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG will broadcast today’s Stephens County vs. Central of Carrollton playoff softball game live from Columbus.

Air time today is at 3:45 p.m. with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
