Stephens BOE FY 14 Audit Delayed by State

The Stephens County school system will have to wait longer for its Fiscal Year 2014 audit.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said that the state Department of Audits told him that the school system would not receive its audit for a few more months.

“The FY 14 audit, because the Audit Department is into the college part of their audits, will not do our FY 14 audit until November,” said Dorsey.

The school system received its Fiscal Year 2013 audit from the state last August, more than a year after that fiscal year ended.

Dorsey began meeting with the state Department of Audits on the Fiscal Year 2014 audit back in April.

The state is not only conducting the audit, but also preparing the school system’s year-end financial statements for Fiscal Year 2014 at the request of Dorsey and the school system.

According to Dorsey, one state team will prepare the financial statements while another team will conduct the audit.

He said the school system is providing all of the information that the state is asking for.

“I think they have all the documents they need,” said Dorsey.

Dorsey says that delays in the audit process will not have any bearing on the current fiscal year’s budget.
