Stephens Co. BOE Approves Bids

The Stephens County Board of Education approves bids on a project and a needed piece of equipment.

On Tuesday, school board members unanimously approved bids for both a project to build steps, a hand railing, and handicap ramp for the entrance to the Currahee Arena from the student parking lot at Stephens County High School, as well as for a new aerial lift.

First on the gym steps project, the concrete bid went to P&T Concrete of Toccoa at a cost of $17,500 and the hand railing bid went to Cooley Woods Construction of Cleveland at a cost of $12,320.

That makes the total project cost $29,820.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said the steps are needed for safety and convenience reasons entering the gym.

Meanwhile, the aerial lift will be purchased from Reach Master, Inc. of Kingwood, Texas at a cost of $191,432, a price that fell in line with initial estimates from the school system.

Dorsey said the lift could be used throughout the school system, but the high school’s needs are driving this demand.

He said the school system does not currently have the equipment or ability to do things like change light bulbs in numerous areas of the high school, like the Currahee Arena, Tugaloo Center for Performing Arts and cafeteria and this lift will allow that work to be done.
