Stephens Co. BOE Elects 2014 Officers

Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton will continue serving as the Stephens County Board of Education Chair for another year.

The board selected Pinkerton to serve as chair at its meeting Tuesday.

Pinkerton took over as Chair last year after the resignation of former Chair Jerry Steele from the board.

She said she is glad to serve as the Board of Education Chair for another year.

Pinkerton noted that the school board has some important issues to face right off the bat this year.

“We do have an issue before us of selecting a new superintendent, which makes us sad because we are sorry that Sherrie is leaving,” said Pinkerton.  “We also have a head football coach position to fill.”

In Tuesday’s vote for Chair, Sandra Childs nominated Pinkerton and then Pinkerton nominated David Fricks.

Childs, Steve Tilley, Jeff Webb, and Jim Ledford then all voted for Pinkerton.

Pinkerton and Tony Crunkleton voted for Fricks, who withdrew his name from consideration during the vote.

Meanwhile, the board selected Tony Crunkleton to continue serving as Board of Education Vice-Chair.

Fricks was also nominated for that post, but withdrew his name from consideration and Crunkleton was nominated unanimously.

School Superintendent Sherrie Whiten will serve as Board of Education Secretary and the board will keep the same Attorney this year, the firm of Harben, Hartley, and Hawkins of Gainesville.

The Board of Education also set its meeting dates and times for the next 12 months.

School board meetings will continue to be held on the third Tuesday of the month beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Stephens County School System Administrative Offices on Mize Road.
