Stephens Co. Commission Meets Later Today

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will consider approving a court fee ordinance at its meeting later today.

Stephens County Commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the second-floor courtroom of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

At the start of the meeting, county commissioners will hold a second reading and public hearing of the proposed court fee ordinance.

According to Stephens County Attorney Brian Ranck, the proposed ordinance would impose a court fee on any fine or community service sentence from the Magistrate Court, State Court, or Superior Court for any violation of any county ordinances or state law.

Ranck said the court fee would be $10 and is designed to help offset the costs of running the county’s court system.

A first public hearing and reading of the proposed ordinance was held at the county commission’s last meeting on November 8.

After holding a second reading, county commissioners will consider a motion to approve the proposed ordinance on their business meeting agenda.

Prior to having the business meeting to vote on agenda items, the county commission will hold a work session to discuss the agenda for the business meeting.

Today’s 5:30 p.m. Stephens County Commission meeting is open to the public.
