Stephens Co. School System To Try and Get Back on Schedule With Audits

The Stephens County school system will try to have the state complete two audits in one year to get the school system caught back up.

On Tuesday, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey told the Board of Education that he would like to see that happen.

Currently, the Stephens County school system is waiting for state auditors to conduct the Fiscal Year 2014 audit.

Dorsey said that state auditors have the financial statements for that year, but will not begin the audit until November or so because the state auditors are currently performing college audits.

In the meantime, Dorsey said the school system is working on getting the financial information and everything ready for Fiscal Year 2015.

“We are hopeful we can get both of them done at the same time so we can get back into a healthy audit cycle,” said Dorsey.

There is no word on how long it would take for the state to complete both audits at the same time.

The school system originally thought it would receive its Fiscal Year 2014 audit this month.

However, state auditors informed the school system several weeks ago that they would be delayed and would have to push back the audits until that November time frame.
