Stephens Co. Special Olympics Holds Bowling Tournament

Stephens County Special Olympics holds its annual Bowling Tournament.

The annual tournament brought out people of all ages to the Rose Lanes Bowling Center in Toccoa on Friday for a day of fun.

According to Stephens County Special Olympics Coordinator Kevin Phillips, it is a great event that everybody enjoys attending each year.

“I think it is important in the community and for these kids to let them know that we look at them as being able to accomplish the bowling and bowling is one of the games that they really love to do, so I think it is an uplift to them to let them know they are just as good as anyone else,” said Phillips.

Phillips also said that it takes a lot of volunteers to help because there are a lot of competitors ranging from elementary school age all the way through age 60.

“We could not do it without the volunteers,” said Phillips. “We probably have 25 to 30 volunteers out here today along with 150 to 160 athletes that will be through throughout the day.”

Phillips said that he and the Stephens County Special Olympics appreciate all of the volunteers that helped on Friday and everyone who supports the organization throughout the year.
