Stephens Co. Special Olympics Holds Spring Games

Stephens County Special Olympics gathers for its annual Spring Games.

Those took place on Friday at the Stephens County High School football stadium.

Local Special Olympics Coordinator Kevin Phillips said that the Spring Games is one of the biggest events that Stephens County Special Olympics holds each year for the athletes.

“Today’s Spring Games is really important for us because the kids enjoy it,” said Phillips. “It is something for the local participants to show off to their families and friends here in Toccoa. The kids really love it and we love putting it on for them.”

Phillips said that about 120 or so Stephens County Special Olympic athletes took part in Friday’s Spring Games.

Having an event like the Spring Games requires a lot of volunteers.

Phillips said he appreciates everyone who takes time out of their day to help make the Stephens County Special Olympic Spring Games a success.

“We cannot do anything without them,” said Phillips. “The high school has been very willing to let kids come down and help as ‘buddies.’ We really appreciate their interest in helping us, along with the public. We have a lot of public volunteers as well.”
