Stephens Co. To Look For New Senior Center Bus

Stephens County is going to look at getting a new bus for its Senior Center.

On Tuesday, the Stephens County Commission was considering approving a repair to the Senior Center’s current bus at a cost of about $9,000.

Stephens County Commissioner Dean Scarborough then brought up the idea of a new bus, noting the age of the current bus.

Scarborough said that the county is expecting to receive about $300,000 from the sale of the old Goodwill building soon and could use some of that money.

County commissioners voted unanimously to not make the repair to the current bus, but instructed staff to instead begin looking at new buses to bring a proposal back to the county commission.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Stephens County Commissioners did approve unanimously a pricing agreement for asphalt with C.W. Matthews for the county’s road work this summer, as well as the purchase of a 2017 Savage Boom Mower at a cost o $136,900, along with a financing agreement.

The mower will be paid for with SPLOST VI funds.
