Stephens Co. United Way Kick-off Event Announced

A special event will kick off the 2016 Stephens County United Way campaign later this month.

The Stephens County United Way will host “Toccoa’s Got Talent” at the Schaefer Center on Doyle Street in downtown Toccoa on Tuesday, September 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Stephens County United Way Campaign Co-Chair and Board Chair Danette Smith said they are looking forward to putting on a wonderful evening for the community.

“We are working in partnership with the Main Street program and the event will be held at the Schaefer Center that evening,” said Smith. “We have several local groups and representatives who are going to be sharing their talent with us. Obviously, we are going to be featuring local talent from Toccoa and Stephens County. We are just inviting the entire community to come out and enjoy. It is an evening for the family to enjoy. We have some of our Boys and Girls Club representatives who are going to be joining us and serving our guests who attend that evening. We just think it is going to be a fun evening out.”

The event is free to attend.

Smith said that during the event, people will also find out about the 12 agencies in Toccoa and Stephens County that receive support from the Stephens County United Way and how the money raised each year by the United Way helps those groups.

“We just want everyone to come out, get an opportunity to see where we are headed with the Stephens County United Way,” said Smith. “We will be talking about the agencies that the United Way supports. We are going to be viewing the new, 2016-2017 campaign video. There will be some of our agencies featured on that video, as well as some personal stories of some clients that those agencies have supported and been able to help. It is going to be a good opportunity to see what does it mean to invest in the United Way.”
