Summer Movies, Ida Cox Series Wrap Up This Weekend

A couple of summer series in downtown Toccoa wrap up this weekend.

Today is the final day for “Summer Movies at the Schaefer Center” and Saturday is the final night for the “Ida Cox Music Series.”

First, Main Street Toccoa will be showing the movie “Minions” today at the Schaefer Center.

Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said it is a great way to wrap up the movie series, which continues to grow in popularity.

“It is a real popular movie so we are expecting a great crowd,” said Crosby. “We have had a great turnout this summer. We have been really excited with the numbers that we have had and the enthusiasm and we have just been really pleased with the support we have had from our community.”

Admission to the movie at the Schaefer Center is $1 and concessions are $1 each.

There are two show times, 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Crosby noted that construction on the Ritz Theater marquee at the Schaefer Center is going on at the front of the building, but people will still be able to enter that way for the movie today.

Meanwhile, Saturday night’s final headline act for the “Ida Cox Music Series” is the band “Dyn-O-Mite” out of Atlanta.

Crosby said they perform a mix of 1960s and 1970s tunes.

“They will be playing some James Brown songs,” said Crosby. “They are a great group. If anybody gets the chance to go and listen to them online, you will really enjoy them. We are hoping for a great turnout. Last Saturday was our largest group so far, so we are hoping for an even bigger group this coming Saturday.”

The Ida Cox Music Series takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in downtown Toccoa on Doyle Street.

It is free to attend.

In case of rain, the concerts move to the Schaefer Center.
