Survey Ranks Best Cities in Ga. to Start Business

A recent survey by the finance and lending-related website NerdWallet says that Toccoa is the 91st best place in Georgia to start a business out of 126 looked at it in the state.

That survey was released last week.

In it, NerdWallet said it analyzed 126 places in Georgia, each with a population of at least 5,000.

The website said that cities with fewer than 500 businesses were excluded, regardless of population.

NerdWallet said it then calculated the overall score for each location based on the city’s business climate and economic health using data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

To determine a community’s business climate, NerdWallet looked at average revenue, percentage of businesses with paid employees and the number of businesses per 100 people and to determine a community’s economic health, NerdWallet looked at median annual income, median annual housing costs and the unemployment rate.

Other area cities in the survey included Gainesville, which ranked 19th; Commerce, which ranked 56th; Athens, which ranked 68th; and Jefferson, which ranked 109th.
