TFC Sports Update

At Toccoa Falls College, cross country and volleyball wrapped up their seasons while the men’s and women’s basketball teams have gotten their season underway.

The cross country teams participated at the NCCAA Division II national meet on November 14 in Houghton, New York.  The TFC women’s 5k was led by Jamie Smith, who placed 11th out of the 43 competitors.  Katie Zimmerman finished in 24th and Jessie Smith crossed the line in 34th.

The men’s cross country team was led by Ian Caudill’s 16th place finish.  Teammate Tim Sestak tailed Caudill in 21st position and Nick Strob finished 36th out of 56 runners.

Meanwhile, TFC volleyball traveled to Kissimmee, Florida on November 11 and 12 to participate in its first national tournament since 1999.  TFC qualified for nationals after finishing as runners-up in the region tournament and was given the 9th seed.  The Screaming Eagles played competitively in each of the matches, but were overpowered in the end by the higher seeded teams.

Moving to winter sports, the TFC men’s basketball opened the season with a 2-1 start with wins over Warren Wilson College, 81-64, and Welch College, 118-96.

However, the Screaming Eagles then lost to Montreat College, 108-105 and Truett McConnell College, 78-77.

The TFC men were then topped by Oglethorpe Univnersity 123-99.

Finally, the Toccoa Falls women’s basketball team opened their season on November 10 with a 71-49 victory at Wesleyan College.  TFC slumped to a 1-2 start with road defeats at Truett McConnell College and Johnson University (TN).
