Toccoa 2016 Water Quality Report now Available

The City of Toccoa’s 2016 water quality report is now available and it concludes safe drinking water.

All Georgia Community Water Systems are required to provide an annual Consumer Confidence Report to their customers and to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division by July 1.

The reports inform people about the water they drink and let them know if there are any contaminants in their drinking water as well as how those contaminants affect their health.

According to Toccoa’s report, 1.36 billion gallons of water were treated and there were no contaminant violations in 2016.

Utilities Director Harry Scott said that Toccoa has very good water.

“Here in Toccoa we have very good water,” said Scott. “We have surface water we draw out of Lake Toccoa and we run it through our plant to check for contaminants. The report that we issue for our customers is a basic snapshot of what’s in their water in recent years and to reassure them that the water they’re drinking is safe.”

Scott said that they test for contaminants on a daily basis and that Toccoa’s contaminant levels were below minimum standards.

“Our contaminant levels on the copper, fluoride and lead, we all tested way below minimum standards that the industry requires so we have very good water and the numbers reflect that during our testing.”

According to Scott, if someone has concern about their water, they can contact the utility director’s office and someone from the lab will come to their house for a sample of the water.

Paper copies of Toccoa’s Water Quality report are available in the customer service lobby or in the utilities department at City Hall. Online versions can be found at www.cityoftoccoa.com/2016waterreport.pdf.
