Toccoa Annexes Two Properties

Toccoa City Commissioners accept annexation requests for two properties to enter the city limits.

Tuesday, city commissioners unanimously approved annexation requests for 102 Cherry Street and 21 Midget Drive.

Both requests were recommended for approval by the Toccoa Planning Commission.

At 21 Midget Drive, developers say they plan to open a micro distillery.

As a result, city commissioners zoned the property as B-2, Commercial at the request of the developers and the recommendation of the Planning Commission.

Toccoa Planning Director Connie Tabor says the city received two written comments on the proposal for Midget Drive, with one person expressing opposition to the distillery plans.

There were no public comments on the 102 Cherry Street annexation, which was zoned by the city as R-1A, Single-Family Residential District.

Also on Tuesday, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously approved Alcohol Beverage Control licenses for two locations, the Mountain Mart at 18 Highway 123 and South Side Grocery at 324 Mize Road.

Finally, the Toccoa City Commission approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Georgia’s Exceptional Main Streets, or GEMS, program on Tuesday.

City officials say this is a one-year renewal of the city’s involvement with the state’s Department of Community Affairs GEMS and Main Street programs.

Main Street Toccoa has been in the GEMS program since 2014 and has been in the Main Street program since 1990.

Officials say there are no changes to the agreement between the city and the DCA from what was agreed to in 2014.
