Toccoa Approves Election Ordinance

Toccoa sets the schedule for its city commission election this Fall.

On Monday, city commissioners unanimously approved the General Election Ordinance that sets all the dates and fees for the November election.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse did note that there are a couple of differences this year in the qualifying process.

“There are two things that are different from what you have approved in previous years,” said Morse to commissioners. “The qualifying period is one week earlier than usual and the qualifying period is reduced from five days to three days.”

Qualifying for the two Toccoa City Commission seats up for election this year will be from August 21 through August 23 at the office of Toccoa City Clerk Fredda Wheeler in Toccoa City Hall.

The qualifying fee will remain $252.

Post 3 and Post 5 on the Toccoa City Commission are up for election for four-year terms that will run from January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2021.

Currently, Post 3 is held by Jeanette Jamieson and Post 5 is held by Evan Hellenga.

Both are in their first terms on the Toccoa City Commission.

The city commission election will be November 7 and early voting will start on October 16.

The deadline to register to vote in order to vote in the city commission election will be October 10.
