Toccoa Celebrates Christmas With Busy Weekend

Toccoa gets Christmas celebrations underway with a busy weekend of holiday activities.

It started on Friday night with Christmas Fest in downtown Toccoa.

The 7th annual event included carolers, open shops and restaurants, Santa, a live nativity, the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn on Sage Street, and more.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that it was a great night on Friday.

“We were real excited with the crowds,” said Crosby. “The Sage Market was full and we are thankful for that. The Festival of Trees was a success. One of the biggest hits was our ice skating rink.”

Ice skating will be open in the parking lot along Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays weather permitting through January 1.

Hours are from 3 to 9 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays, and 1 to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Moving to Saturday, the Toccoa Woman’s Club hosted the annual Toccoa Christmas Parade through downtown Toccoa.

This year’s theme was “Candy Land Christmas” and the grand marshal was 2016 Paralympic Gold Medalist McKenzie Coan.

Then on Sunday, it was the Toccoa Symphony Christmas Concert.
