Toccoa Commission To Meet Today

The Toccoa City Commission will take another step towards implementing Sunday alcohol sales for on-site consumption at its meeting later today.

Toccoa City Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. today at Toccoa City Hall.

During today’s meeting, the city commission is scheduled to consider a Sunday Alcohol Sales Ordinance.

In November, city of Toccoa voters approved Sunday sales of alcohol by the drink for on-site consumption by a vote of 221-198.

After voters approved the referendum, Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that the city would have to re-write the city’s alcohol ordinance to account for the new regulations.

Also, Morse said the city would have to put the state laws on Sunday sales into the city’s current ordinance.

Morse said last month the city would possibly look at January 1 for implementing the Sunday sales approved by city voters.

Also on today’s meeting agenda is the consideration of Alcohol Beverage License renewals for 2016.

Besides those two issues today, the Toccoa City Commission is also scheduled to receive the monthly financial report and issue a proclamation recognizing former Georgia First Lady Betty Russell Vandiver for founding the Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade.

Today’s 5 p.m. Toccoa City Commission meeting also allows time for public comment.
