Toccoa Commissioners Handle 2016 Appointments

Toccoa City Commissioners take care of a number of yearly appointments.

Monday, the city commission started 2016 by ratifying the choice of Evan Hellenga as Mayor and Jeanette Jamieson as Vice-Mayor.

Commissioners chose those two to serve in the rotating posts at their last meeting.

Also, city commissioners unanimously voted to re-appoint Billy Morse as City Manager, Fredda Wheeler as City Clerk, and the Rev. Paul Garrison as City Chaplain.

Mayor Hellenga then appointed commissioners to a number of boards on which the city commission is represented.

Those are as follows:

Humane Shelter Board – Evan Hellenga and Jeanette Jamieson
Chamber of Commerce Board – Gail Fry
Downtown Development Authority – Terry Carter
Georgia Mountains Regional Commission Board – David Austin
Stephens County Board of Health – Gail Fry

As Mayor, Hellenga is appointed to serve on both the Stephens County Development Authority and the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport Authority.

Finally on Monday, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously approved a contract for the Georgia Vibrant Communities Grant.

That grant was awarded by the Georgia Council for the Arts to Toccoa to help pay for a concert at the Schaefer Center as part of Toccoa’s “Flames Fest” event coming up later this year.
