An annual Halloween tradition continues in downtown Toccoa today.

The Toccoa Main Street program will host its 25th annual Costume Parade this morning.

Pre-school age children between the ages of two and five are invited to attend and area pre-schools will also be participating.

Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that the parade will begin at 10 a.m. with line-up beginning at 9:45 a.m. at the corner of Alexander and Doyle streets.

Crosby said that there will be two lines for the parade this year.

“We are asking families that really do not want to have their children’s costumes judged, they will go in one line and they will go on ahead,” said Crosby. “Those who would like to have their children’s costumes judged, they will be in another line and we will ask them to fill out a form. Then they can hand that form to the judge. That way, we will have some contact information for the children and that will help the judges with their responsibilities as well.”

The parade will follow the same route it has in years past and there will be volunteers to help direct children along the route and policemen to help at street crossings.

It will again end at the intersection of Sage and Doyle streets, where there will be refreshments and the awards will be handed out for costumes in various categories for ages 2, 3, and 4.

Everything should wrap up by about 11:30 a.m.

Crosby said they are looking forward to another great year for the Costume Parade.

“We have 500 or 600 children coming out, dressed in their Halloween costumes,” said Crosby. “Every year, it seems to grow and get more and more participants. We also get a lot of family members, grandparents, aunts, and uncles come and watch the children. It is really a fun event for everybody. We all really enjoy it.”

AM 630 WNEG will be broadcasting live reports from the Costume Parade starting at 10 a.m.
