Toccoa Creates Cemetery Advisory Board

Toccoa names five people to a new cemetery advisory board.

City commissioners approved the appointments by a unanimous vote on Monday.

Those who will serve on this board are Paige Flores, Willie Woodruff, Doug Scott, Sherri Rumsey, and Brenda Kelley.

According to Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse, this board would help the city with looking at the rules and regulations for the city cemetery.

“Our purpose is to maintain the uniformity, harmony, beauty, and to safeguard the sanctity of the Toccoa City Cemetery, so the cemetery advisory board is created,” said Morse. “The board shall be made up of citizens who will provide input to the city commission for the operation and maintenance of the cemetery.”

Morse went on to say that city staff does not envision the board being in place for a long time.

“The term of this board will be very short in nature, with all terms expiring on June 30, 2017,” said Morse.

Morse did say that if the commission wanted to continue having the cemetery advisory board, it could choose to appoint new members or re-appoint the same members next June and keep the board going.
