Toccoa DDA Seeks Approval for Beer and Wine License for Schaefer Center

The Schaefer Center will soon be able to offer beer and wine for special events.

The Toccoa Downtown Development Authority approved to file for a beer and wine license for the Schaefer Center at its meeting on Friday morning. Toccoa Main Street Director Connie Tabor explains. “Toccoa DDA approved the application process to be submitted to the Department of Revenue and Toccoa City Commission to serve beer and wine at the Schaefer Center for special events. So it will be like the Ping’s Grill set-up (located at the Links @ Lake Toccoa) that the city owns as well.”

Tabor says that with the improvements made to the Schaefer Center there will be more and more events, and after studying other area event centers that offer beer and wine this is a logical progression for the Schaefer Center.”We do want to make sure that we don’t compete with the downtown businesses that offer beer and wine; says Tabor “but we do want to take the Schaefer Center to the next level and be able to sell at special events. So we will proceed with that process.”

The city would hold the license and be in control of all alcohol sales at the facility.

In other new from Friday’s DDA meeting, the DDA agreed to discontinue Taste of Toccoa, by recommendation of the Toccoa Main Street Promotions Committee, but with the provision that there will an event or events added to replace the 25 year event.

After some discussion, the DDA tabled decisions concerning a façade grant application for Jimmy Harris to use for building improvements to his 9 West Doyle Street location, and a 2017 lease request at the Schaefer Center for Cross Town Church.
