Toccoa Making Plans for Street Re-Surfacing

A street re-surfacing program in the city of Toccoa remains on track for next year and could start as early as the Spring.

Monday, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution for the project.

According to Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse, the city will have about $1 million in SPLOST VI funds and $126,640 or so in state funds available next August to put towards street re-surfacing.

He said the city has a list of streets ready to go and may start earlier than August.

“The city commission has desire of beginning this paving as early in the 2017 paving season as possible and also the commission is willing to forward fund the project to get it completed as soon as possible using reserve funds that would then be replaced with SPLOST VI funds.”

Morse said the resolution would allow the city to forward fund the project and re-pay city reserves with SPLOST money as it comes in.

Also, Morse said the resolution allows the city to work with Stephens County regarding having county crews do the road work rather than contract it out.

“Ideally, resources of Stephens County, we would like to use those,” said Morse. “They have shown some interest in paving city streets.”

Currently, the project calls for the city to have work done on about 26 streets.
