Toccoa Planning Commission Meets

The Toccoa Planning Commission elects officers for the year ahead.

At its meeting on Thursday, the Planning Commission unanimously elected member Kinloch Dunlap to serve as Chair of the Planning Commission.

Dunlap had been serving as the Planning Commission’s Vice-Chair.

Meanwhile, the Planning Commission’s previous Chair, Don Pruitt, was unanimously elected by the board to serve as Vice-Chair this coming year.

Toccoa Planning Director Connie Tabor was chosen to again serve as the Planning Commission’s Recording Secretary.

Also at its meeting Thursday, the Toccoa Planning Commission received an update on the request for abandonment of a portion of East Savannah Street.

Tabor said Toccoa City Commissioners will take up the Planning Commission’s recommendation on the matter at Monday’s city commission meeting.

“The Planning Commission is making the recommendation to the city council to abandon a portion of East Savannah Street from Walnut to the First Baptist Church parking lot,” said Tabor. “That is at the request of Mr. and Mrs. John Zeches and First Baptist Church.”

Tabor went on to say that there are multiple reasons this request has been made.

“They are trying to work out a property line issue with the Zeches family,” said Tabor, who added the other reason is to try and improve traffic safety around the First Baptist Church pre-school.

According to Tabor, a number of property owners that would be affected were notified of the request and no opposition has been expressed to the Planning Commission.

Also, she said that it would not completely cut off access out of the area for any of the properties.

Toccoa City Commissioners will meet Monday at 5 p.m. at Toccoa City Hall.
