Toccoa Police Investigating Convenience Store Burglary

The Toccoa Police Department is investigating a break-in at a local convenience store.

Chief Tim Jarrell said that it happened last week.

“In the early morning hours of Friday, April 15, two individuals entered the Raceway convenience store on Big A Road and took an undisclosed amount of money and an undetermined amount of cigarettes,” said Jarrell.

Jarrell said that there is video, which is aiding in the investigation.

At this time, Jarrell said the evidence shows two males dressed in all black in the convenience store.

Also, Jarrell said that Toccoa Police are working with neighboring agencies that have had burglaries that share some characteristics with this one.

Meanwhile, Jarrell said the police department would like to use this as an opportunity to remind businesses to make sure they are checking their security systems.

“We would like to remind other businesses to self-evaluate their alarm and video system,” said Jarrell. “Test their alarm and make sure it is working properly.”

He also said video recording should be real-time, not delayed if possible.

Jarrell said that business owners should also keep their windows free of signage and advertisements so that police can see in the business during and after hours to check on the business.

Also, he said businesses need to remember to make sure their alarms are set, video recording systems are on, after hours lights are on, and doors are locked when closing for the night.

Jarrell said that the Toccoa Police Department will send an officer or detective out to check and evaluate a business’s alarm and video systems if the business would like.
