Toccoa Receives Grant Funds For Equipment

Toccoa receives grant funds from a statewide organization to assist with buying needed equipment.

The Georgia Municipal Association announced on Monday that the city of Toccoa received a Safety Grant check in the amount of $10,000 and a Liability Grant check in the amount of $10,000 for the purchase of an In-Car Camera, Traffic Cones, Signs, Confined Space Equipment, Body Armor, Safety Vests, First Aid Kits, and Body Cameras.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said they are excited to receive the equipment.

“We are very grateful for the funds we received through the grant and it is equipment that is very much needed by the police department,” said Jarrell.

The GMA Safety and Liability Management Grant program was introduced in 2000 to provide a financial incentive to assist members in improving their employee safety and general public liability loss control efforts through training and the purchase of equipment or services.

It is made available to members of GMA’s property and liability insurance program and GMA’s workers’ compensation insurance program.

Since the inception of the program, over 130 cities have received grant money through the program and over 500 grants were approved totaling nearly $1.5 million to fund items such as bulletproof vests, training videos, confined space entry equipment, reflective safety vests, fire department turnout gear, and police department in-vehicle video systems.

The GMA said these grant funds have helped leverage the purchase of over $2.6 million in this type of equipment and training.

GMA Marketing Field Services Representative Eileen Thomas said this program allows each city to stretch its budget dollars and provide a safer work environment for employees.

Based in Atlanta, the Georgia Municipal Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its over 500 member cities.
