Toccoa Streetscape Prep Work Planned

Preparations are scheduled to get underway for the next phase of the downtown Toccoa streetscape project this week.

The Toccoa Main Street office said that in anticipation of the construction of Phase Six Streetscape in downtown Toccoa, saw-cutting will take place on Wednesday, February 1 beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m.

According to Toccoa Main Street, the contractor will be cutting asphalt and concrete along South Park Lane, which is the alley next to WNEG Radio and behind the Toccoa Record, as well as the sidewalk along the eastern side of North Alexander Street.

Main Street said it thanks businesses and residents in advance for their cooperation and added that there should be minimal disruption during the beginning phase of streetscape construction.

Anyone with questions should contact the Toccoa Main Street office at 706-282-3269.

Toccoa Main Street Director Connie Tabor said this latest streetscape effort will involve re-doing concrete and installing brick pavers and new asphalt in South Park Lane, as well as the parking lot adjacent to that alleyway that backs up to the radio station and the Department of Labor, where some landscaping work will be done as well.

According to Tabor, it will look similar to other alleys in the adjoining streets.

She said the project is scheduled to start in earnest in mid-February and once started, should be completed in 150 days.

Funding for the project is coming from federal and state grants, with some local matching funds that have already been budgeted.
