Toccoa Wins Award for Golf Course Clubhouse Project

Another Toccoa project receives recognition from the state chapter of a national organization.

Toccoa Mayor Gail Fry said that city officials traveled to St. Simons earlier this month to again receive an award from the Georgia Chapter of the American Public Works Association.

“We received the 2016 Project of the Year Award, Small Cities/Rural Communities, Historic Restoration/Preservation,” said Fry. “It was presented to the city of Toccoa for the clubhouse at the Links of Lake Toccoa.”

The clubhouse at the Links of Lake Toccoa re-opened to the public, along with the nine-hole golf course, last September.

Fry said all of the city employees who had a hand in the clubhouse project should be commended.

She went on to note that this year is not the first time the city has won an award from the American Public Works’ Association Georgia Chapter.

“This is two years in a row that the city of Toccoa has won Small Cities Project of the Year,” said Fry. “Last year for the pool and this year for this.”

This is only the second year for this awards ceremony, so Toccoa has won in both years.

The Georgia Chapter of the American Public Works Association said it established the awards program for the purpose of recognizing outstanding public works individuals, groups, projects, and awareness efforts representing the best achievements in the public works profession in Georgia.

The organization said these awards are intended to bring meaningful recognition to excellence in the Public Works Profession throughout the State of Georgia.
