Two Arrested on Drug Charges in Multi-State Investigation

Local authorities say they are pleased with two arrests made in Stephens County as part of a larger drug investigation.

Friday, the Applachian Regional Drug Task Force served a search warrant at a residence on Head Drive in Toccoa and arrested 28-year-old Christian Lee Hilland and 29-year-old Samantha Nicole Nagy of Toccoa.

Both Hilland and Nagy were charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said authorities found a significant amount of drugs when they entered the home in Toccoa.

“They were able to recover 13 ounces of crystal methampethamine, more than $10,000 in cash and two firearms,” said Shirley.

At the same time that authorities were searching the Toccoa home on Friday, authorities were serving search warrants in both Cornelia and Milledgeville as part of the investigation.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office says that the investigation disrupted a methamphetamine trafficking operation responsible for distributing about 60 kilograms of methamphetamine in Georgia and South Carolina over the past two years.

Shirley said this investigation is a great example of cooperation between law enforcement agencies.

“It just goes to show what interagency cooperation, the intelligence sharing of mega task forces like the one we are part of can do,” said Shirley.

Shirley also thanked the Toccoa Police Department for its involvement in the case.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that the police department is always happy to work with the Sheriff’s Office and other agencies to help get drugs off the streets.

“This investigation shows that the drug issues that are plaguing Toccoa and Stephens County,” said Jarrell. “They can spread into neighboring states.”

Jarrell went on to say that he hopes this makes a difference here in Toccoa.

“We are hoping that this will put a dent in some of the drug issues we are facing,” said Jarrell. “We know there are more out there.”

Besides Georgia, authorities say this investigation also stretched into North Carolina and South Carolina.
