Unemployment Rate in GA Mountains Region Down for March

The unemployment rate in the Georgia Mountains region, which includes Stephens and Franklin counties, was 4.2 percent in March, down from 4.4 percent in February.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the rate declined because more people went back to work.

Butler said however, the two biggest impacts on the unemployment numbers are the size of the labor force and the number of people actually going to work.

In Stephens County last month the unemployment rate was 5.1 percent – down from 5.5 percent in February.

Stephens County’s total labor force in March stood at 10,654 – of that, 575 workers were receiving unemployment benefits.
