United Way of Stephens Co. Kicks Off Fundraising Campaign

Stephens County kicks off its 2015 United Way campaign.

The annual kick-off event took place on Tuesday at the Gate Cottage on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

Speaking at this year’s event was University of Georgia Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin.

He is serving as the honorary chair for United Way in the region.

Stricklin said he encourages people to be selfless and give their energy to a good cause like the United Way.

“When you are selfless and care about others, it can be contagious,” said Stricklin. “That is what we ask you to do. There are a lot of people out there that need our help.”

This year, the United Way of Stephens County is aiming to raise $100,000 in funds to help local agencies.

Local Campaign Chair Tammy Riddle said it is going to take the support of the entire community to reach that goal for this year.

The United Way of Stephens County currently serves 12 agencies.

Riddle said 99 cents of every dollar raised is being used to meet the needs of those who need it right here in Stephens County by going to those agencies.
