Weather Affecting Military Weekend

Rainy weather is affecting the annual Currahee Military Weekend in Toccoa and Stephens County.

The annual event that honors the paratroopers of World War II who trained at Camp Toccoa began Friday.

This morning, it is the annual Currahee Challenge Run/Walk

A number of activities have been re-arranged or cancelled.

Activities today at the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport have been cancelled.

Meanwhile, Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says that downtown activities are also being adjusted to the rain.

She says the steam trains set for Saturday and Sunday have been cancelled, along with the entertainment.

However, Crosby does say downtown will have a number of different things still going on, including re-enactors and some displays.

Also, the parade is still expected to take place at 2 p.m., though the weather may affect the length of that parade.

The opening ceremonies, meanwhile, are set for the historic Stephens County Courthouse after the parade.

Crosby says with things still happening, people are encouraged to come downtown and enjoy Military Weekend.

She says downtown restaurants will be open for people.

The banquet is still set for tonight and the remembrance service will still be tomorrow morning.
