Wilkinson Center Addition Construction Starting

IMG_20151019_183258_951Work is underway on a planned expansion to the Wilkinson Center at Stephens County Hospital.

At their meeting on Monday, Hospital Authority members looked at pictures of the construction that is now underway.

Stephens County Hospital Administrator Ed Gambrell said that work just got underway recently on the project.

“The first thing to do is the concrete work and that is taking place as we speak,” said Gambrell.

Gambrell said that the work could not start until all the paperwork and contracts were completed, something Gambrell said took some time.

Stephens County Hospital is looking to build six additional units at the Wilkinson Center that would fall under the facility’s current license.

According to Gambrell, each of the four units will house two people comfortably and will include a small kitchen, a living room area, a study that could also function as a separate bedroom, a separate bedroom, a walk-in closet, and a patio.

He said that the units will be about 1000 square feet and the addition will be connected by a heated hallway to the main Wilkinson Center.

Gambrell said they have already had people asking the hospital about the six units, proving interest is high.

“There is a lot of interest in those rooms,” said Gambrell. “It is pretty incredible. I am pretty confident they will be filled on Day One.”

The project is to cost no more than $900,000.

Gambrell said the hospital hopes to open the new units this coming Spring.
