Woman Charged in Weekend Accident

A Stephens County woman faces charges after a one-car accident in Stephens County this past weekend.

It happened on Saturday afternoon on Brookhaven Circle.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, 45-year-old Michelle Black of Martin was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima north on Brookhaven negotiating a curve when the vehicle crossed the centerline and continued across the southbound lane of the roadway and onto the west shoulder.

Troopers said the vehicle then continued north striking a guardrail end with its front and then a tree with its front.

The vehicle then reportedly overturned, striking several more trees with its left rear and came to rest on its top facing southeast off the roadway.

Black was transported to Habersham Medical Center by Stephens County EMS with what were termed as non-incapacitating lower extremity injuries.

The GSP said Black was charged with DUI drugs less safe and failure to maintain lane.
