10 Die on Ga. Highways Over Labor Day Weekend

The Georgia Department of Public Safety says that 10 people were killed on Georgia highways over the Labor Day travel weekend.

That travel weekend started at 6 p.m. Thursday and ended at midnight Monday.

One of those fatalities was in northeast Georgia, as it was reported by the Hartwell post of the Georgia State Patrol.

The Hartwell post of the GSP covers Hart, Franklin, and Elbert counties.

Overall, GSP troopers investigated four of the 10 fatalities, while the other six fatalities were investigated by other law enforcement agencies.

Last year during a similar travel period, troopers investigated 473 traffic crashes over the Labor Day weekend that resulted in 285 injuries and six fatalities. In addition to traffic crash investigations, troopers arrested 234 people for driving under the influence.
