AM 630 WNEG: The Voice of Northeast Georgia and Beyond

AM 630 WNEG is Toccoa, Georgia. There are only a few communities where the local radio station dominates radio listenership; Toccoa is such a place. As the only commercial radio station operating in Stephens County, Georgia, WNEG provides a full-service format that focuses on local news, sports, weather, community events and local involvement. It’s a unique relationship that dates back to 1956 when WNEG went on the air. Broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the choice AM dial position of 6-3-0, WNEG is the Voice of Northeast Georgia and Beyond.


AM 630 WNEG’s format consists of heavy local news and information focused on the residents of Stephens and Franklin counties. The emphasis is always LOCAL.

CBS News is heard at the top of every hour. Local news is heard hourly with expanded newscasts from 6 a.m.-9 a.m., 12 p.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Georgia Network news is heard hourly.

WNEG broadcasts community information on its hourly Community Calendar feature. Local weather forecasts are heard not less than every twenty minutes. When weather emergencies happen, folks turn first to AM 630 for details. WNEG is the official National Weather Service weather observatory for Stephens County, Georgia.

WNEG broadcasts a full schedule of Stephens County High School football, baseball and basketball games, as well as Georgia Tech football and basketball. This fall, enjoy Atlanta Falcons Football on AM-630!

The WNEG target audience is 30 plus, but WNEG is the community radio station and its programming appeals to everyone.


As a mass-appeal community voice, AM 630 WNEG features a unique blend of music – a true middle-of-the-road upbeat contemporary format which focuses on the most popular artists of the Seventies and Eighties, with a few select tunes from the Sixties and some current hits, too. Artists like Dionne Warwick, Anne Murray, the Carpenters, the Supremes, Ray Charles and the Bee Gees. Not too soft, and not too hard – always just right!

WNEG has a lot of at-work listening because its unique music appeals to the buying/working public of the area. The music is presented by local Toccoa-based announcers who know the community and are leaders in it.


AM 630 WNEG broadcasts on the choice frequency of 630 kHz, at the low end of the dial, where AM radio signals travel much greater distances. WNEG’s FCC-protected primary signal covers the same distance as most 50,000- watt FM stations. It covers all of Stephens, Franklin, Rabun, Habersham, Banks and Hart counties in Georgia, and Oconee County in neighboring South Carolina.
