ActiveKidz Therapy Holds Water Week

Monday kicked off water week at ActiveKidz Therapy in Toccoa.

One of the occupational therapists, Katie McFarlin said this is a way to give the kids a break from their normal therapy routines.

“This week is water week, we’re pretty much just letting the kids have fun,” said McFarlin. “We have a slip-n-slide, sand, a dunking booth, water balloons, water guns, just anything for them to have fun for the week.”

The Toccoa Fire Department has provided the water for the dunking booth and participated with the kids this week.

Office Manager Melissa Mitchell said that playing in the water is a way for the kids to play and do therapy at the same time.

“The hands on therapy, the actual throwing the ball, learning how to climb the slide to go down the slip-n-slide is the physical part,” said Mitchell. “Katie, for their therapy is making them grasp balls out of the sand, grasp insects out of the sand, actually helping them throw. It’s really good therapy and they enjoy it.”

According to Mitchell, ActiveKidz Therapy provides occupational, speech and physical therapy for children with special needs, some who have seizures, delayed development and those with injuries. They have offices here in Toccoa, Braselton, Watkinsville and Loganville.
