In Habersham County, some 15 people are under arrest and charged in connection with operating a drug ring that resulted in a death.

According to Mitchell Posey with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement, the arrests came last Friday.

Posey tells WNEG News his agents, along with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mt. Airy Police Department executed 5 opioid related search warrants in Habersham and Franklin Counties.

“The arrests came after a months-long undercover investigation into the death of Adam Hicks,” he said.

Posey said the investigation uncovered additional people from Adam Hick’s inner circle that were distributing heroin and oxycodone.

As a result of the evidence and information agents developed, Habersham County authorities arrested 25-year old Ashley Sosbee of Alto last Friday and charged her with felony murder in the overdose death of Hicks.

Also arrested were 25-year old Jordan Flanagan and 22-year old Dustin Thomas both of Alto, 25-year old Brandon Burton and 21-year old Grant Martin both of Cornelia, 23-year old Jessica Hancock of Clarkesville and 20-year old Patricia Blacklock of Gainesville.

Arrest warrants have also been issued for ten more suspects, all of whom face various drug charges.

“Authorities have worked tirelessly to bring the people responsible for the death of Adam Hick to justice,” Posey noted. “This investigation speaks loudly to opioid dealers that law enforcement will not sit idly on the sidelines as the people in our communities die.”
