Baker named SCHS Head Girls’ Basketball Coach

Stephens County High School has a new girls basketball coach.  Tuesday Night, the Stephens County Board of Education approved the hiring of Laura Baker as a SCHS History teacher and Head Girls Basketball Coach.  Coach Baker is currently a history teacher and assistant girls basketball coach at Franklin County High School.

Michael Keown, Stephens County High assistant principal and athletic director, says she has a lot of experience as an assistant coach.

“She’s got 17 years of coaching experience both at Franklin County High School and George Walton Academy,” Keown said. “She’s been a part of several winning teams, Final Four teams, State Championship Runner-Up teams, I think about 9 region champ, she’s been ‘Assistant Coach of the Year’ for the region on a couple of occasions. We’re really looking forward to having her here and working with out athletes.”

Coach Baker will be meeting with the Lady Indians basketball team early next week and has already begun planning the summer schedule for the team.  She’ll be replacing Scott Strickland who resigned the position earlier this year.
