BOE Approves Strategic Plan

At their meeting Tuesday, the Board of Education approved an updated strategic plan that will go into effect this school year.

During their work session last week, Deputy Superintendent Terri Powers discussed the updated plan, saying that it includes a new mission statement, vision and goals.

According to Powers, the plan was created with input from stakeholders in the community, including parents, school faculty and staff, students and even local businesses.

The mission, vision and core values involved in the new plan include goal statements that allow individual students to find what their skill set is.

Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said this plan is different than ones in the past.

“One of the biggest changes that we’ve made in this strategic plan versus the one we were redoing is the the fact that one, involving our current stakeholders,” said Dorsey. “It’s always good to go back through that process and in doing so, made some shifts about what we want to accomplish with our students and making sure that we’re helping them always move forward with skill sets that are going to be beneficial for them currently and then in the future.”

Dorsey said the plan will start this year and will set the direction that the school system goes for the next three years.

Also mentioned in their meeting Tuesday, Dorsey gave an update on the 2015 & 2016 audit, saying that they are close to finishing, but are not complete yet. He expects it to be finished around October.
