Pinkerton Resigns from Stephens Co. BOE

Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton is resigning from the Stephens County Board of Education.

Pinkerton announced her immediate resignation in a letter that she released on Friday.

She did not give a reason for why she has chosen to resign her seat and declined to comment further on the matter when contacted by WNEG.

In the letter, which is addressed to the citizens of Stephens County, Dr. Pinkerton said she would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported her throughout the last 11 years.

She said “it has been a difficult yet rewarding journey with an incredibly dedicated group of citizens; beginning with the other Board members and Mr. Dorsey, then continuing to our administrators, each one of our teachers, and our support staff throughout the School System.”

Dr. Pinkerton said she thanks everyone for their dedication to the school and the Superintendent, but most especially to each and every one of the county’s children.

She thanked the community for the chance to serve on the Board of Education, saying “it has been a privilege to work together with the Board and Mr. Dorsey.”

Moving forward, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said it will fall on the Board of Education to pick a replacement for Dr. Pinkerton.

“According to our local statute, the Board of Education members which remain on the board select the new Board member for the remainder of this term,” said Dorsey. “Obviously, we have not had a meeting since this announcement, but they would go through a process of determining how they would want to make that selection. The criteria, besides the state law criteria, is that they must represent the district that is open and they have had to live in that district for at least one year.”

Pinkerton represents District 1 on the Stephens County Board of Education.

Dorsey said he would expect the Board of Education to discuss the matter at its January 19 meeting, unless a meeting is called prior to that.

Pinkerton’s term runs through the end of this year and her seat on the Board of Education is set to be on the ballot.
