Burglary Case in Shorewood Community Leads to Arrest

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently received a pair of reports regarding the burglary of a residence off of Thrasher Drive in the Shorewood community.

According to the reports, on two separate occasions someone had forcibly entered the residence and stolen electronics, tools and jewelry. The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division for follow up.

On Friday, April 7, investigators went to the victim’s residence to follow up regarding the initial reports. During this follow up, investigators noticed that several items appeared to be packaged in tote able containers left outside of the home.

Believing that the thief might live in the area and be on foot, investigators began canvassing the area surround the victim’s residence. It was while doing this investigators began locating several small items that were reported as taken during the burglary.

Following these items investigators were led to a neighbor’s residence. Investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for the home of 50-year-old Anthony Jerome Moore of Azalea Court in Toccoa.

Upon execution of the warrant, investigators located almost all of the items reported stolen in the burglary. Moore was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary in the first degree. The property was recovered, processed and turned back over to the rightful owner. Moore is currently being housed at the Stephens County Jail on these charges and an outstanding parole violation.
According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, “the found items formed a fairy tale Hansel and Gretel style trail of breadcrumbs that led straight to the suspects residence, however in this story, the ending turned out happy with the bad guy getting caught.”
