Challenger Announces Run Against Gasaway

A Habersham County man will challenge incumbent Dan Gasaway for the 28th District seat in the State House representing Stephens County.

Stacy Hall made his candidacy official at a campaign kick-off event in StephensCounty on Tuesday.

Hall is currently the Athletics Director at Truett-McConnell College.  He has also worked in sports marketing for a number of universities, as well as being a teacher and coach.

He said his leadership ability is what separates him as a candidate.

“When I was at the University of Houston, I tripled revenue in four years,” said Hall.  “When I was at Vanderbilt University, I doubled revenue in three years.  At Truett-McConnell College this past summer, we launched a first-ever athletic capital campaign.  Seven months later, we are breaking ground.  In seven months, we raised over half a million dollars and broke ground.”

He also pointed to his experiences with organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the United Way.

If elected, Hall said shutting Wilbros down is first on his agenda.

“My number one priority as a state representative is to get Wilbros out of Stephens County,” said Hall.  “They have been here long enough.  They have been through the process to try to straighten these issues out.  The county deserves better.  It has been a very unfair situation for the residents, the school system, the SeniorCenter, and the community at large.  It is time for Wilbros to go.”

On the heels of that, Hall said the community needs to work on economic development and creating jobs.

He said while the local community is doing a lot of positive things, he feels more could be done with state resources to help.

“To be able to build those relationships and leading is about building relationships; it is about knowing which offices to go to down in Atlanta.  It is about having those relationships that you can count on and help to guide you and look at grant opportunities where you might be able to take care of some infrastructure, you might be able to go to the Department of Community Affairs and be on the front end of some conversations of some businesses globally and domestically and bringing them in.”

Hall said getting Wilbros out of town is also crucial to economic development.

In addition, he said he wants to work with the school systems in the area to educate children in such a way so as to train a workforce that is ready for the jobs that are brought into an area.

The 28th State House District is made up of Stephens County, Banks County, and part of Habersham County.

Both Hall and Gasaway have said they will run as Republicans in the election.

Qualifying for the election is coming up in early March for the May primary.
