Chase Ends in Stephens Co. With Arrest

A three-county chase ends with a wreck and an arrest in Stephens County.

It took place Tuesday afternoon and started in Banks County.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, Banks County authorities attempted a vehicle stop on Highway 63 on an individual on whom Banks County had outstanding warrants.

The driver did not stop and Shirley said that authorities pursued the suspect from Banks County, into Franklin County, through Carnesville, and eventually into Stephens County.

Shirley said that the suspect went down Highway 106 and turned onto Nub Garland Road.

Once on Nub Garland Road, the suspect turned around and attempted to head back out onto Highway 106, but collided head-on with a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy vehicle, according to Shirley, who says the deputy was not injured.

The sheriff said that at that point, the suspect fled into the woods and was caught almost immediately. identifies the suspect as 32-year-old Edwin Henry Johncox of Lula.

Shirley said he faces numerous charges in Stephens County, including aggravated assault of a deputy sheriff.

He also faces charges in Banks and Franklin counties.

At last report, he was in the Stephens County Jail.
