Childs Signs for Golf at Truett-McConnell

A Stephens County High School student-athlete will be taking his game to the next level after graduation.

Micah Childs signed on Monday to play college golf at Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia.

Childs said Truett-McConnell was a clear choice for him both on and off the course.

“Truett is a Baptist school and I am a Southern Baptist and I believe that I want to go to college and have a biblical world view when I come out,” said Childs. “Truett-McConnell just fit from Day One and then to have the golf as an opportunity is just a big plus for me so I am looking forward to that as well. It just feels like home to me up in Cleveland, so that is where I want to be.”

Childs said that on the course, he hopes to compete to the best of his ability right away.

Off the course, he says he plans to study business.

Before he heads to college however, Childs has one more year of golf at Stephens County High School.

Childs said he is looking forward to his senior year.

“As a team, we definitely want to qualify for the sectional tournament and hopefully make it to state,” said Childs. “That is a big goal as a team. I want to keep my numbers low this year, play the game I know I can play. Stay focused and be determined every tournament.”

Childs said he is also looking forward to having a home course this year for the high school golf teams at the Links at Lake Toccoa.

“This is our first year that I have been in the program that we get to have some home matches,” said Childs. “That is a big plus that we have a homefield advantage. If you have never played there, it is a pretty hard course.”

Childs said he grew up playing at the Links and says the course has really allowed him to work on his shot-making abilities.
