City, Camp Fire Reach Pool Management Agreement

The city of Toccoa will once again work with Camp Fire on the operation of the Doyle Street Pool this coming summer.

On Monday, the Toccoa City Commission unanimously approved a new agreement with Camp Fire for it to operate the pool for the city again this year.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said this agreement replaces the one-year agreement that expired at the end of last year.

Morse said that the partnership worked well last year and that the agreement put before commissioners is the same agreement with just updated dates.

Toccoa City Commissioner Gail Fry said she feels like Camp Fire has done a good job for the city running the pool.

“It is beautiful,” said Fry. “You have done a great job of keeping it clean and well-maintained. I feel that the whole clientele of the pool has changed. I see a lot of families there.”

Camp Fire CEO Elaine Brinkley said they appreciate the city giving them the opportunity.

She said they are looking forward to getting started on getting the pool open as soon as possible, possibly even before Memorial Day, by hopefully offering water safety classes.

“Whether families are going to be swimming at the lake or in our pool, they still need water safety,” said Brinkley.

To that end, Morse said that the covers have been removed from the pool to help start that opening process.
