City Commission Adopts Comprehensive Plan

The City Commission approves the adoption of an updated comprehensive plan at last night’s meeting.

The Toccoa Planning Commission worked on updating the plan last month with help from a Northeast Georgia Regional Commission group and the public’s opinion via a survey that was published.

Commissioner Gail Fry said this plan is a requirement and provides guidance for every day decision making by local government officials.

Fry told WNEG News some things that are included in the comprehensive plan.

“We have development strategies, they have goals, development areas, rapid development and long-term,” said Fry. “It deals with some goals that we would like to do within the community. There are design plans in there for areas that need attention and we have to decide how to implement the plan. They add education opportunities for youth and just making the community prepared for any emergency, and just making sure that we’re fiscally sound and that we have all the resources we need.”

According to Fry, the comprehensive plan is updated every five years.
